LET ME TAKE YOU DOWN by Paul Kennel

...to a pub I started frequenting some five years ago, called the Bulls Head, Pratt’s Bottom Knockholt, Kent. I love this Pub so much, I decided to a glowing review so I could tell you, the computer  viewing  public, all about the place.

It’s in the sleepy hamlet of Pratts Bottom, that’s near the sleepy hamlet of Knockholt, on the main A21 coming out of  Orpington, heading toward Hastings. Legend has it that Dick Turpin to and fro’d between a long since bricked up tunnel between the pub and the neighbouring Pear Cottage around the time leading up to his capture, I’m not 100% sure about the facts, as I’ve only been using the pub since 2005, but would he have dug the live music banging away above his head on a Friday night.?

Like any ancient, historical old English Pub, it has its fair share of spirits. Apart from those purchased from the bar, just sit back and take in the atmosphere...feel the ambience...you can almost picture the old Dickensian/Edwardian gentlefolk discussing the latest Pratts Bottom scandal...the only thing thats changed is the fact that you can’t smoke in here anymore.The Pub’s real assets are the Landlord Vernon (let’s take out the long term) Leese, his incredibly beautiful wife Dawn, lively kids and the range of pets that reside at The Bulls Head Pub today.

The Leese family are all Thespians....theatrical types run great pubs, because they love to entertain. Hence, The Bulls Head promotes brilliant theme nights, going all the way to present the different, and the unusual.

Vernon is a genius of a Landlord. Friend, confidant, voice of reason, shoulder to cry on, Fund Raiser, Spirit of the Community, bit of a nutter, sometime Chef and vendor of Community Heart and Soul. Only 12 years ago, he was a Headmaster. The education system’s loss is the punters gain, as ‘Big Vern’s’ enthusiasm, good nature, heart of gold, and general Bon Amie are the basis of what makes The Bulls Head the finest Pub in the South of England, if not, the Pub Universe, (should there be such a thing).
